As beautiful as the city and landscape of San Francisco is on the ground, imagine it from above. The Golden Gate Bridge from hundreds of feet in the air takes on a whole new look. Airship Ventures offer rides in a helium-filled airship, the Zeppelin NT. If terrifying thoughts of the Hindenburg are coming to mind, don’t worry, these technologically advanced vessels are completely safe. The Zeppelin is made by a company that creates NASA spacesuits, and it is supposed to be immune to even lightning.The Zeppelin sails around the city at about 1300 feet, maintaining a speed of 35 mph. Covered in windows, some of which even open, you are provided with an unparalleled view of the city. Costing 495 per person for a one hour flight makes this quite an expensive afternoon. One hour rides take off from Oakland North Field. If you really want to go for the full experience, a two hour flight will ring you up to 950 per person and will take off from Moffett Field. This obviously isn’t something we would recommend every time you’re in the area, but if you’re willing to shell out the dough, it’s a sight you won’t soon forget. When you’re done with the flight, stop by the nearby NASA Exploration Center, which after this expensive flight, is refreshingly free.
